Ideas for projects

I came up with the idea of having my students create their own childrens book. The objective is for the students to create a children's book covering the following Colorado Content Model Standards: 1.3 READING Students read and derive meaning from a variety of materials written in a foreign language;
1.4 WRITING Students write in a foreign language for a variety of purposes and for diverse audiences. I will give the students ten minutes every day for two weeks to work on their project. They will research a variety of children's books to obtain ideas for their own creation. The students will be required to use the internet for researching, finding visuals for their pages, and typing their book. Finally, they will have to bind the book and read their book to the class.
Any ideas for more enhancing projects involving reading and writing?

What to read?

I have been reading a book called "Ya Sé Leer" it is an elementary level book in Spanish, that tells many mini stories. The reading is appropriate for levels 1-2. As a class we read one story each day and each student is required to read one sentence. We translate as a class using prior knowledge and cognate recognition. I find that the students love to read these mini stories!

Any suggestions on different material, that is appropriate for levels 1-2?

Where to find the time?

Hello my name is Brandi Garcia, I am a High School Spanish teacher and I teach levels 1-2. this is my second year teaching and I have been working on developing lessons for teaching reading in the target language. My biggest concern was where do I find the time? I realized that time in the classroom was very limited and my teaching style needed to be very diverse and differentiated in order to teach the material. I could never find the time or the materials to teach reading in the classroom. This year I have developed different techniques of teaching reading and providing the students with the opportunity to read on a daily basis,but still maintaining time and the curriculum. I read with the students the last ten minutes of class every day!
Any suggestion on different methods of implementation?
